As discussed in a previous post, I recently released a book describing my journey around the globe. As important as the journey, is the motivation for the trip, and how I changed through my experiences. Or how I hit the reset button, so to speak. We all go through interesting changes in our lives. Hopefully, we emerge from them better than when we went in.
I went through a tough time at work. Eventually, I was laid off along with thousands of others. I saw the layoff coming but it took some time to make peace with it. Travel was a great way to gain perspective and realign my goals and ambitions. Sometimes you need a little distance to fully appreciate everything you are dealing with.
When I returned from my trip, I had a clear mind and was full of drive and determination. I knew exactly where I wanted to end up and what I needed to do to get there. I also knew what I didn’t want, and I have turned down opportunities I knew would not make me happy in the long or short term, regardless of how much money was involved. But it would have been hard to figure all of that out without taking time off from my life.
Listen to my podcast episode on ZeroToTravel to understand everything I went though to reset my life.
The book itself is titled From Antarctica to Zimbabwe: How I hit the reset button on my life. It’s available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. in print and ebook formats.
Until next time, live young and travel.
