My trip around the world

Sahara Desert

Sitting in the Sahara Desert

Last year, I was lucky enough to have a lot of time and enough money on my hands at the same time. Since traveling is my favorite activity, I decided to take a long trip. In my mind, at the time, a long trip meant more than 10 days. I decided that I would visit all 7 continents. I like for my trips to have a theme, if possible. So, it would be a trip around the world.

As my planning continued, my mind started to open and the possibilities started to seem endless. When my husband said, “Why only two weeks? Why not a month? Or two?,” my mind was blown. I was so used to only having 2 or 3 weeks vacation that I couldn’t see the opportunity in front of me until it was pointed out to me. One I saw it, though, I was unstoppable. I ended up traveling for 3.5 months. I visited all 7 continents and 23 countries.  It was the most amazing experience of my life and I am still thriving on the experiences I had on the trip.

I am, of course, publishing a book about the trip. It was too wonderful an experience not to share. I’ll keep you all posted but

At The Great Zimbabwe Ruins

right now I anticipate it will be about 2 months before it comes out.

Some highlights from the trip include seeing the Coliseum in Rome, almost getting shipwrecked in Antarctica, and walking a cheetah in Zambia. My favorite country was Morocco which has the most hospitable and generous people anywhere in the world. I really enjoyed the Sahara Desert also. Nothing compares to sitting on its dunes and communing with nature. Its vastness and serene silence allowed me to look myself in the eye. It’s still my go-to memory when I need to find peace within myself. If I seem nostalgic, it’s because I am.

Bora Bora

On the beach in Bora Bora

I learned a lot of things on my travels. It surprised me that people were surprised that I, a woman, traveled alone. Most of them were women who confessed to me, “I would never do what you’re doing.” I was sad for them. If I had waited on others, I would have not been able to do the things I did or seen the sights I saw: waddling penguins in Antarctica, blue waters of Bora Bora, stone ruins of Great Zimbabwe. Life is meant for living. We need to stop limiting ourselves.

I was missing the Sahara today and needed to share these memories to lighten my mind. I hope my trip around the world will inspire your trip around the world. Thank you for reading.
